NOTE None of these roles comes with any kind of "Power" or "Status" around the forum, or In-Character, than comes with the role of your typical Community Member.
I have seen, over a span of almost two decades, a trend where individuals are elevated to a higher 'Rank' around the forum, which - without some realizing it - elevates their standing among their peers, resulting in both celebrity and often unwanted attention. This then (from Day 1) sets the stage for other players seeking to do whatever it takes to climb into those Ranks themselves, whether or not they have any intention of fulfilling the responsibilities of those roles, or are even capable of effectively performing those duties.
For years, Forum Staff of other RPGs have looked the other way with regards to this unspoken standard, as it promotes Activity, Forum Ratings, and alleviates the Staff's own workload. They would sit by and do nothing while all-out WAR would break out between different Cliques and Social Circles, all inspired by a feeling of fierce and toxic competition for who would occupy these roles, and thereby secure their place in the Community, as well as the places of their friends and favorite writing partners.
We will be offering incentives for Player Recruitment, Voting for the RPG, Activity around the forum and Chat, etc. However, these incentives will not be designed in such a way that they cause players to feel like they're on Reality TV (Big Brother, Survivor), and have to play cutthroat politics just to remain relevant, or become a permanent fixture of the Community.
It is my dream to have a Writing Community evolve into a circle of friends who can meet up for events and get-togethers offline, not as a 'privilege' for being a member of one clique or another, but simply because we are all human beings with feelings and purpose in the Offline Realm, and deserve access to friends and acquaintances who help us grow, as a unit, and as individuals.
Keep an ear out for the term TyranCon. Yes, one day, that will be a thing...
